Ireland’s chances of hosting the 2023 Rugby World Cup have taken a blow today with the news that France intend to bid for the event too.
This morning's Midi Olympique, the French rugby newspaper, has this story today.

In short it says that while the FFR are not yet official candidates the idea was floated at a recent meeting and the body that runs French rugby voted to go ahead with the plan. This is bad news for the IRFU, who launched their official bid to host the 2023 World Cup at the tail end of last year.
Though France hosted the event in 2007, their experience, and size, may go in their favour against the Irish bid which the paper reckons is the strongest competition.
Of course, both European countries will be battling South Africa for the honour, who are bidding to host for the first time since 1995.
